Understanding Usage in Nexus Repository Community Edition

If you are seeing usage alerts within your repository instance, your organization's usage exceeds 200,000 requests per day or 100,000 components. Nexus Repository Community Edition does not support usage at this scale. What Are Usage Limits?

Usage limits have gone into effect in Community Edition, which help ensure your instance of Nexus Repository is deployed appropriately for your scale. As your requests and components increase, additional requirements are needed to support a larger-scale deployment, such as High Availability and Disaster Recovery. These features along with others like SAML, single sign-on, and enterprise-grade support are available in our Pro Edition.

To avoid any disruption, speak with your repository admin about decreasing your usage to the acceptable range within Sonatype Nexus Repository Community or transitioning to Nexus Repository Pro to remove usage restrictions.

What are the advantages of the Community Edition?

The Community Edition includes features previously only available to Pro users. PostgreSQL will be available alongside H2. This provides better backup and resiliency options, including compatibility with Kubernetes. New repository formats are also available: Cargo (Rust), Hugging Face, Composer (PHP), and Conan V2.0. 

Why do I have to upgrade to Pro if I exceed the Community Edition limits?

Because Nexus Repository deployments are now critical not to just a handful of developers, but also key parts of business operations, supporting Kubernetes workloads, and production deployments, Sonatype has released features previously only available in the Pro edition. External database support allows Nexus Repository to match the demands it now faces day to day. New repository formats further extend the general purpose use of Nexus Repository across organizations.

The new free option, Nexus Repository Community Edition introduces usage limits, which let us support the role Nexus Repository plays in modern enterprises while ensuring it is used responsibly. Usage above these limits must be supported by appropriate technical options like High Availability and Disaster Recovery to ensure the system is capable of reliably handling the load a high usage system will experience. Users above these limits are required to reduce their usage below the limits or move on to the Pro edition to get access to the large Enterprise features.
