Sonatype has several incredible initiatives that make it a place where voices are heard. In 2018, Women at Sonatype was formed to build engagement and awareness in our remote organization. We have an LGBTQ+ group and the Community, Belonging, Inclusion, and Diversity (CBID) Committee, where new representatives are elected several times a year to represent the holistic experience of workplace culture.

We’ve also begun the Employee Value Proposition initiative, allowing every person to participate in forming tomorrow’s Sonatype. These are sessions anyone can come to talk about what they love and what they want to see improve. Sonatype has been the most inclusive, non-toxic and welcoming environment of my decade-long career in the Tech industry. I have seen incredible participation and passion from folks across the board around DE&I initiatives — including from those who may not identify with a minority group or have experienced diversity issues first hand. They want to be allies and learn and understand varying points of views. Knowing that I am surrounded by such people gives me the confidence that my opinion is valued and that I can do my best work.

I came into Sonatype from a background of working with teams either mostly or completely comprised of women. I was quite new to not having as many women in my peer group, and being the only one in engineering management! My experience so far has been nothing but amazing! If there are ever situations where I have trouble making my voice heard (physically), someone in the meeting will make sure I get my chance to speak. I have always felt supported by the entire team. Sonatype fosters a very inclusive environment and is a wonderful place to work no matter who you are!

We are 400+ employees from wildly diverse backgrounds and have been a remote-first company since our inception. We pride ourselves on getting people comfortable even before Day 1. We share our interests, knowledge and peeks into our home life across many varied and entertaining #special-interest-group channels. We have a seriously funny sense of humor, but we also go deep to solve big problems as teams. We have a great deal of respect for each other. I’ve participated as the company has grown in helping to build an inclusive, diverse and safe workplace for everyone. It’s reciprocated every day in ways large and small. And I always look forward to hearing the next great idea.
