Sonatype, the company that is transforming software development, today announced the appointment of Wayne Jackson as its Chief Executive Officer and member of the Board of Directors. Jackson was previously CEO of Sourcefire (NASDAQ:FIRE) and Riverbed, two of the most successful technology startups of the past 10 years. Jackson has hand picked an experienced executive team that complements Sonatype’s renowned technical team and will help further accelerate the company’s growth. The company will be based in the Washington DC metropolitan area. “Wayne has consistently proven that he can build extremely successful software companies,” said Jason van Zyl, Sonatype Founder and CTO. “His experience in the open source world and track record of success coupled with the addition of our new management team provides Sonatype with the leadership to grow into a dominant software development player.”
Jackson is known for building innovative start-up companies into market leaders. As CEO, he grew Sourcefire, the leading provider of intrusion detection and prevention solutions for the enterprise, from start-up to successful public company within five years. Under his direction, Sourcefire implemented an aggressive business plan that led to it becoming the first open source vendor to go public in ten years and the first security vendor to go public in five years.
Prior to his work with Sourcefire, Jackson co-founded and served as CEO at Riverbed Technologies, a mobile and wireless infrastructure company that he built from start-up to category leader in less than two years. In 2000 he orchestrated the successful sale of the company for more than $1 billion dollars.
Jackson once again has surrounded himself with experienced industry veterans that have successfully driven the growth and success of previous companies. Joining Jackson on the management team are:
Larry Roshfeld, Executive Vice President, responsible for the strategic direction, development and delivery of products. Roshfeld also served with Jackson at Riverbed as Senior Vice President of the Software Product Group. Previously, Roshfeld was an executive at Lotus Development, IBM and Manugistics, as well as at a number of successful startup companies. He has a proven record of delivering market-leading products in both private and public companies.
Dave Miller, Chief Financial Officer, chartered with managing corporate financial activities. Prior to joining Sonatype, Dave was CFO of USinternetworking, a leading application service provider. He led USinternetworking’s financial efforts as it evolved from a start up to a $120 million entity acquired by AT&T. Prior to USinternetworking, Dave spent 10 years with Ernst & Young. Dave is a hands-on financial executive with significant experience in public and private companies as well as growth and restructuring environments.
Patrick McBride, Vice President of Product Management, tasked with the implementation of repeatable, efficient, metric-driven product management processes. Before joining Sonatype, McBride served as interim CIO for the Health Care District of Palm Beach County, was founder and CEO of Meta Security Group, and Service Director for Meta Group. McBride is experienced in developing, positioning and selling advanced technology and business solutions.
Charles Gold, Chief Marketing Officer, responsible for creating and implementing marketing strategies to drive revenue growth and market share. Formerly the Vice President of Worldwide Marketing for the DataDirect unit at Progress Software Corporation, Gold helped fuel revenue growth from $35 million to nearly $100 million. Prior to DataDirect, Gold held executive marketing roles in both startup ventures and established industry leaders in both the open source and commercial software domains. Gold is a growth oriented software marketing executive with a proven ability to scale businesses of various sizes.
David Crawford, Director of Sales, responsible for implementing and managing sales operations to drive business growth. With more than 25 years of experience, Crawford has built strong sales teams and exceeded quotas for companies such as Hewlett-Packard, Atria Software, Rational Software and Electric Cloud. In addition, he has developed and maintains strong relationships with top technology, financial and manufacturing companies both domestically and internationally.
“I am thrilled to have an opportunity to apply my business, technology and open source experiences in such a dynamic company, building on Sonatype’s remarkable market position,” said Jackson. “Jason and the Sonatype team have demonstrated a remarkable pace of innovation in the software development category and laid the foundation for tremendous growth potential.”
