Senior UI Engineer

Sonatype is seeking an experienced interaction designer to work with a world-class engineering team in the development of web applications that help people effectively manage and safely use Open Source Software components.

The ideal candidate:

  • Is experienced at conceptualizing and designing elegant, intuitive and functional web applications that make data informative and actionable
  • Knows how to use established human factors and usability methodologies to design beautiful web applications that make business strategy a reality
  • Can define and develop task and transactional focused user experiences
  • Can be involved in all aspects of user experience including: business & user needs analysis, high & low fidelity prototyping, usability testing, and following deployment, monitoring usage and measuring adoption success

Key Responsibilities

  • Align business requirements, user centered design methodology and technology factors to create low and high fidelity interactive prototypes for the purposes of validating business requirements and conducting usability testing
  • Create click-through prototypes with HTML, CSS and Javascript
  • Develop wireframes, screen-flow diagrams & UI spec documentation as needed
  • Consider localization, scalability, and ease of maintenance in all solutions
  • Define and demonstrate best in class web solutions that can be integrated with Sonatype's Information Technology standards
  • Act as a user experience evangelist within diversely skilled project teams
  • Engage business and technical team stakeholders for feedback and validation
  • Assist with validating and measuring user experience success via usability testing and post deployment evaluations
  • Effectively communicate project status to product management on a regular basis

Requirements

  • Background in Human-Computer Interaction, Information Science, Computer Science, or a Bachelor's Degree in a related field. 5+ years professional experience
  • Demonstrated ability to define new approaches to complex design problems and convey solutions in the form of presentations, click through prototypes, and design specifications
  • Must be process driven, possess strong interaction design skills, careful attention to detail and have a solid understanding of user centered design principles
  • Strong HTML, JavaScript & CSS abilities
  • Strong understanding of browser-related user interface and backend technologies
  • Experience defining and monitoring success through site analytics/metrics
  • Excellent communication, leadership and presentation skills
  • Experience working with Adobe Photoshop, Fireworks, and Illustrator
  • Experience working with Jquery, XJTS, and/or other Javascript UI frameworks

Quality Engineer

Sonatype is looking for a Quality Engineer to be team lead for all aspects of testing for one of our new products. This includes creating automated tests which will run on our Hudson CI system, creating and executing test plans, and reproducing/diagnosing customer bug reports. You get to write lots of code, and experiment with new technologies. This is not production code; our Quality Engineers have lots of freedom.

Requirements

  • You’ve written or contributed significant code to a widely used Java webapp.
  • You’ve got experience writing unit, system, and integration tests.
  • You have experience designing, setting up, running performance tests, load tests.
  • You’re not afraid to write code if required and do it well.
  • You’re familiar with CI and continuous deployment best practice.
  • You’ve got a strong engineering background because there’s not a lot of manual testing.
  • You have lots of coding experience.
  • You have strong oral and written communication skills.

Data Analyst

Sonatype is looking for you if you have experience building Open Source software and experience with analysis of JAVA artifacts.

Requirements

  • You have deep JAVA experience.
  • You conduct research on open-source software components using primarily Internet resources (e.g. web sites, mailing lists, newsgroups).
  • You can collect, organize, and enter data gathered from research into one or more documents and databases.
  • You can participate in defining requirements for building internal tools to help with data collection and data entry.
  • Ideal candidates will have experience building open-source software.

It would be great if you have:

  • Experience with Maven and/or a general understanding of the Maven ecosystem.
  • Knowledge of software licenses and software licensing issues.
  • Familiarity with security vulnerability websites and mailing lists.
